Film coated Tablets - Dry Suspension
Broad spectrum Antibacterial - Antibiotic
Composition:
Each ( film coated ) tablet contains :
Erythromycin stearate equivalent to .
Erythromycin base 250 mg. Trimethoprim 80 mg.
Each 5 ml Contains .
Erythromycin ethyl succinate equivalent To
Erythromycin base 200 mg , Trimethoprim 40 mg.
Properties:
Combination of erythromycin and trimethoprim
broadens the ahtimicrobial spectrum and also it
covers most gram negative and gram positive
bacteria. The cornbination also delays emergence
of resistant strains. Erythroprim is quietly and
completely absorbed after oral administration and
rnetabolized in the liver and excreted in urine and
faeces (Erythromycin is mainly excreted in bile.
Trimethoprim is mainly excreted in urine up TO 600/0
of the oral dose as unchanged drug).
Indications & Usage:
- respiratory tract infections : ( upper and lower )
caused by susceptible organisms e.g. staph, Strept,
neisseria, bordetella. H. influenza, corynebacteria,
legumelta and klebsiella.
- Gastro-enteritis.
-Urinary tract infections.
- E.N.T. infections (sinusitis and otitis media).
- Other systemic infections caused by sensitive
bacte ria.
- Chlamydial infections
infections.
- Anaerobic infections.
Side effects:
Spirochetal
Erythromycin : infrequent and mild.
-gastrointestinal upset.
-Allergic reactions in the form of skin rash
Trimethoprirn : dose and course related.
-Nausea, vomiting. allergy and fixed drug eruption.
Megaloblastic anaemia and reversible bone marrow
depression
- Very rare hyper-sensitivity reaction to any of therm.
Drua interactions:
ERYTHROMYCIN
- potentiate the effect of carbamazepin, corticosteroids
and digoxin.
High and potentially toxic concentrations of
theophyline may result when erythromycin is used
concurrently.
Concurrent use of the following drugs is not
recornrnended because competitive inhibition with
erythromycin may occur:
Lincomycin, clindamycin. Chlorarnphenicol.
- Erythromycin may interfere with the bactericidal
effect of penicillin.
TRIMETHOPRIM .
-potentiates the effect of war-farin.
-increases side effects of other folic acid antagonizers.
Warnings and precautions:
Erythroprim should not be used in
known hypersensitivity to either drugs.
• G.6P.D deficiency.
Pregnancy.
Dosa e and administration:
Eryt rim should be taken before meal with I /2 -
1 hou
Adult
two tablets twice daily ( 12 hourly )
Children under 12 years : one tablet twice daily (12
hourly)
Infants up to I year: 25-50 mg/kg/wt,'day/divided 12
hourly or 1/2 teaspoonful/12 hourly
Over 1 year .
30-50 mg /kg/wt/day/ may be increased to 100 mg.
Or : 1 - 2 teaspoonful/ 12 hourly
Or according to the physician prescription
