Floxamo |
Broad Spectrum Antibiotic
Composition:
Tablets:
Each scored tablet contains amoxicillin trihydrate and fluctoxacillin sodium monohydrate equivalent to
Amoxicillin 500 mg.
Flucloxacillin 500 mg
Pharmacological properties:
FIoxamo is a combination of 2 antibiotics belonging to penicillin group.
Amoxicillin is a broad spectrum semisynthetic penicillin which is well absorbed after oral administration and its bioavailability is more than 90%. Small amount of amoxicillin (1 0-20°/o) is metabolized to penicilloic acid and more than 60°/a is excreted unchanged in urine.
FIucIoxaciIIin is a penicillinase resistant penicillin, which is also well absorbed after oral administration with bioavailability more than 80%.
About 15% of flucloxacillin is metabolized to penicilloic acid and its derivatives. About 65°/o is excreted unchanged in urine. Both amoxicillin and flucioxacillin have large volumes of distribution. They are highly concentrated in synovial fluid, lung tissues, skin, and soft tissues.
They are also well distributed into ear ,nose and tonsils.
Antimicrobial activity:
Amoxiciflin is a broad spectrum bactericidal antibiotic against several Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria but it may be inactivated by penicillinase enzymes.
Flucloxacillin is a penicillinase resistant penicillin which expands the spectrum of Floxamo® to cover more resistant bacteria.
Gram + ye bacteria
Staphylococcus sp.
(penicillinase or non—penicillinase producing)
e.g Staph. aureus Staph. epidermidis Staph. saprophyticus Streptococcus sp.
e.g Strep. pneumoniae
(including penicillin resistant pneumococci)
5Irep..pyogenes Strep1. viridans Str.epiaecalis
Gram - ye baderia
Haemophilus influenzae
Neisseria meningitidis
Proteus mirabilis
Mode of action:
Both amoxicillin and flucioxacillin act by inhibiting the synthesis of peptidoglycan layer of the cell wall of bacteria.
Indications:
• Skin and soft tissue infections
e.g. abscesses, carbuncles, furuncles, cellulitis, infeded
wounds, impetigo, folliculitis, boils, mastitis
• Postoperative infections and surgical prophylaxis.
• Bone and joint infections
e.g. septic arthritis, osteomyelitis
• Upper and lower respiratory tract infections
e.g. otitis media, otitis externa, sinusitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, pneumonia
I)ose& administration:
Dose for adults
one tablet every 8 hours (every 6 hours in severe infections) Dose for children (8-16 years):
1/2 tablet every 8 hours (every 6 hours in severe infections) Use during pregnancy and lactation:
