AbbrVault — Medical Writing Reference
An offline reference tool for pharmaceutical and medical abbreviations, with an automatic flag for terms ISMP designates as error-prone.
What This Tool Does
AbbrVault is a searchable reference library of pharmaceutical and medical abbreviations, built for people who need to look up or standardize terminology while drafting clinical, regulatory, or academic documents. It addresses the problem of inconsistent, ambiguous, or unsafe abbreviation use by combining a searchable library with an automatic flag for abbreviations that ISMP designates as error-prone or "Do Not Use."
The library contains 725 entries across 15 subject categories — including routes of administration, dosing frequency, dosage forms, statistics, regulatory/ICH terminology, adverse events, laboratory values, and pharmacokinetics — compiled from terminology used by ICH, FDA, EMA, ISMP (both the U.S. and Canada lists ), MedDRA, and CDISC. The user searches or browses the library, adds relevant entries to a personal document list (which can include their own custom entries), and exports the finished list as plain text, Markdown, an HTML table, or a Word-pasteable format.
