Composition:
Each vial contains:
Amoxicillin sodium 250 or 500 or 1000 mg
Each capsule contains:
Amoxicillin trihydrate 250 mg or 500 mg
Each (5 ml) of suspension contains:
Amoxicillin trihydrate 125 mg or 250 mg
Properties:
Amoxicid exerts its bactericidal action against susceptible organisms during stage of active multiplication through the inhibition of biosynthesis of cell wall mucopeptide. Amoxicid is active against a wide range of Gram -positive and Gram-negative organisms including:
Gram-positive penicillin sensitive cocci, Neisseria gonorrhea, Haemophilus influenza Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis.
Indications:
Amoxicid is indicated in the treatment of all infections caused by susceptible microorganism mainly:
- Respiratory tract infections: bronchitis, Pharyngitis, uncomplicated community- acquired pneumonia, otitis media and H-influenza infection.
- Gastrointestinal tract infections: Enteritis ,bacillary dysentery.
abdominal typhoid and paratyphoid, invasive salmonellosis and in Helicobacter
pylon eradication.
- Genitourinary tract infections: Cystitis, pyelonephritis, prostatitis, urethrltis and
gonorrhea.
- Skin and soft tissue infection: pyoderrna, erysipelas, cellulitis and wound infections.
- Listerial meningitis (in combination with other antibiotic).
- Endocarditis prophylaxis and treatment.
- Anthrax.
Contraindications:
History of hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins.
Side effects:
- Hypersensitivity reactions like skin rashes and urticaria may occur.
- Antibiotic-associated colitis may rarely occur.
Drug interactions:
- Allopurinol: increase risk of developing skin rashes.
- Bacteriostatic antibiotics (I.e.: tetracycline, Erythromycin): diminish the bactericidal
effect of amoxicillin.
- Estrogen-containing oral contraceptives: amoxicillin may decrease the contraceptive
effect.
- Probenecid: blocks the renal tubular excretion of amoxicillin and prolongs its blood
level.
Warnings and precautions:
- Caution is required when using Amoxicrd in the following cases:
- Known history of allergy (serious and fatal anaphylactic reactions have been reported).
- Patients with im_paired renal function (dose should be reduced).
- SGOT and SGPT should be measured during therapy to monitor for liver function abnormalities.
- Amoxicid is not known to be harmful during pregnancy or lactation.
Dosage and administration:
- For upper respiratory tract, genitourinary tract, skin and soft tissue infections:
Adults: 250 mg every 8 hours
Children weighing under 20 kg: 20 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
These doses may be doubled in severe infections.
- For lower respiratory tract infections:
Adults: 500 mg every 8 hours
Children weighing under 20 kg: 40 mg/kg/day in divided doses.
Packing:,
- Amoxicid vials: carton box contains one vial.
- Amoxicid capsules: carton box contains 12 capsules (2 strips each contains 6 capsules).
- Amoxicid suspension: carton boxes containing bottles of 60 or 80 or 100 ml (after reconstitution).
N.B: For reconstitution: add the amount of water written on the label, shake well to obtain homogenous suspension.
Storage:
Capsules, Powder for Or Suspension : store below 30°C and R. H. below 70%
Injection: store below 25 C
